Miroslav Miša Savić (b. 1954, Belgrade) is a composer, performer, a musical pedagogue. Since the mid-1970s he was the director of the music programmes of the Students' Cultural Centre in Belgrade. He was a member of the Ensemble for Other New Music, also a co-founder of avant-garde composer groups Opus 4, Disfilharmonija and Liebe und Arbeit. The Opus 4 group (Milimir Drašković, Miodrag Lazarov Pashu, Miroslav Savić and Vladimir Tošić) was dedicated to multimedia artistic experience in the spirit of Minimalism and Fluxus. It was active from 1976 to 1982. Savić was an active participant of the European Project of Minimal Music. With over a hundred works written for classical instruments, his work also includes experimental performing forms, minimal and electronic music and interactive installations.
Miša Savić sends us for the project a photograph from his home in Belgrade. While there was a short period when the situation with the pandemic seemed to be moving for the better, it is now again on the rise. Spending his time at home, he used the situation to improve his domestic situation – clearing the basement and sweeping the chimney. As chimney men are considered to be lucky charms, Savić sends us all some luck in these times via photo.
Artists Respond project was started by the Institute for the Research of the Avant-Garde and the Marinko Sudac Collection. Addressing the current global pandemic, the project aims to virtually present the thoughts and attitudes of neo-avant-garde artists, their energy and the message they have for the present moment. This is the moment in which the world as we know it is on hold and the moment in which we need optimism and solidarity more than ever. We wish for the public to welcome the creative energy of these artists - artists who are ready to point out the state of things, to respond with art and creativity, as they have done in all difficult times in the past.
Miša Savić was a participant of our Artist on Vacation project in 2019, organised by the Institute for the Research of the Avant-Garde and the Marinko Sudac Collection, with Valamar Riviera d.d. in whose facilities they reside in Poreč.
