Since the second half of the 20th century, poets and artists from various parts of Eastern Europe have taken on the challenge of reflecting on the treatment of language by critically examining its communicative and political-ideological aspects. It does so by aesthetic means. They often focus their attention on the material and media dimension of language. They create performative situations for themselves and their audiences, in which they develop, play out and test the possibilities and limits of language expression.

At the exhibition "Poetry & Performance. Eastern European perspective" for the first time ever, the works of dozens of artists from various contexts of a large area from Latvia and Russia to Croatia and Vojvodina" meet "together. Among them are authors, represented today in the most famous museums and national galleries (Ewa Partum, Mladen Stilinovič, Katalin Ladik or Ladislav Novák), celebrities of cultural history such as Václav Havel and internationally successful contemporary artists such as Babi Badalov. And many others, whose works are presented in the Czech Republic for the first time. A special focus of the exhibition is the reconstruction of the experimental program of the Liberec Radio Studio from the late 1960s.

A wide range of poetic performances is presented through manuscripts, photo documentation, audio and video recordings, objects and installations.

The exhibition presents authors from subcultures of socialist states in addition to current positions. Then, as today, Poetry & Performance is gaining particularly explosive times in times of crisis. In these ephemeral and multifaceted forms of artistic expression, connections that are otherwise inexpressible may come to light.
